House Rules

Sorry but for your safety and that of our livestock, please do not engage with the cattle or attempt to feed them. They are well-mannered but also inquisitive and guests need to keep in mind they do weigh over 500kg. Feeding them can cause the cattle harm because of their digestive system may impact their health of that of their calves. We kindly ask you to turn off air conditioner, close and lock all doors and windows when leaving the cottage.

Neighborhood

Walcha was the first area to be discovered in the New England region. It was on the route taken by the explorer John Oxley and reached on 8th September, 1818. He named the Apsley River after the Secretary of State for the colonies, Lord Apsley. Surrounded by spectacular national parks threaded with wild rivers and tumbling waterfalls, Walcha is renowned for its natural beauty. The oldest colonial settlement in the New England region, the small town also has a rich history, vibrant arts community, and plenty of country charm. On the doorstep: Oxley Wild Rivers National Park with Apsley and Tia Falls, sweeping granite gorges, and the Walcha MTB Trails’ pine-forest singletrack—plus quiet country roads and famed gravel loops rolling straight from town. From sunrise rides to waterfall walks, Red Hill is your New England High Country basecamp.

Guest Access

The Cottage is an elevated structure requiring 2-stairs to be climbed to access the front/main door and living area. The attached deck has 3-stair access in addition to the main entry. The entire living area and bedrooms are on a single level without barriers to mobility. The bathroom is lower than the main living area, requiring 3-semi-steep stairs to be negotiated. There is a single handrail to assist with stair descent. There are no handrails on the main entrance or side deck stairs. There are no wheelchair ramps or access. More detailed pictures of stairs can be provided for guest consideration upon request.

A very pretty traditional style cottage surrounded by pretty garden in a tranquil location. The cottage was very comfortable and we had a great night's sleep. We loved the outside seating area for a sunny breakfast spot! Good proximity to Walcha and not too far to Apsley Gorge & falls. Nothing! However, perhaps being older guests, we did miss the personal touch of meeting someone at check-in. Info was provided in the cottage but sometimes it's nice to find out about the local area - especially when visiting from abroad.
